National Self-Injury Awareness Day
March 1, 2001 is National Self-Injury Awareness Day. You can help by
sending a letter to your mayor and your governor asking that they
proclaim this day as such. Include a copy of the fact sheet and the
SI Bill of Rights with the request.
These are word documents, and the mayoral one is a form letter sort of
thing. Copies of a press release should be up by 20 January, and a
brochure is also being prepared. PDFs with fillable fields should be
up soon, too.
Another way you can help is by committing to distribute fact sheets,
copies of the bill of rights, and brochures to hospitals, school
counselors, university counseling centers, and anywhere you think that
people need to be educated about self-harm.
(If you want to hear what other people have planned and share your own
plans -- or even get ideas -- you can drop by the National
Self-Injury Awareness Day Web Board.
If you are reluctant to use your real name and address, feel free to
use mine. I'd also love to get photocopies of the proclamations people
receive.
