Colors their Properties and Elements

Once upon a time the colors of the world started to quarrel: all claimed that they were the best, the most important, the most useful, the favorite.

GREEN said: "Clearly I am the most important. I am the sign of life and of hope.I was chosen for grass, leaves, trees--without me, all animals would die. Look out over the countryside and you will see that I amin the majority."

BLUE interrupted: "You only think about the Earth, but consider the sky and sea. It is the water that is the basis of life and drawn up by the clouds from the deep sea. The sky gives space and peace and serenity. Without my peace, you would all be nothing."

YELLOW chuckled:"You are all so serious. I bring laughter, gaiety, and warmth to the world. The sun is yellow, the moon is yellow, the stars are yellow. Every time you
look at a sunflower, the whole world starts to smile. Without me, there would be no fun."

ORANGE started next to blow her temper. "I am the color of health and strength. I may be scarce but I am precious for I serve the needs of human life. I carry the most important vitamins. Think of carrots, pumpkins, oranges, mangos, and pawpaws. I don't hang around all the time, but when I fill the sky at sunrise or sunset, my beauty is so striking that no one gives another thought to any of you".

RED could stand it no longer. He shouted out: "I am the ruler of all of you! I am blood! Lifes blood! I am the color of danger and of bravery. I am willing to fight for a cause. I bring fire to the blood! I am the color of passion and of love, the red rose, the poppy and the poinsettia. Without me, the earth would be as empty as the moon!"

PURPLE rose up to his full height. He was very tall and spoke with great pomp: "I am the color of royalty and power. Kings, chiefs, and bishops have always chosen me for
I am a sign of authority and wisdom. People do not question me, they
listen and obey".

Finally, INDIGO spoke, much more quietly than all the others, but with just as much determination: "Think of me. I am the color of silence. You hardly notice me, but without me you all become superficial. I represent thought and reflection, twilight and deep water. You need me for balance and contrast, for prayer and inner peace."

And so all the colors went on boasting and quarreling, each convinced of their own superiority. Soon, their quarreling became louder and louder. Suddenly there was a startling flash of bright lightening! Thunder rolled and boomed! Rain started to pour down relentlessly. The colors crouched down in fear drawing close to one another for comfort. In the midst of the clamor, RAIN began to speak: "You foolish colors, fighting amongst yourselves, each trying to dominate the rest. Don't you know you were each made for a special purpose, unique and different? Join hands with one another and come to me."

Doing as they were told, the colors united and joined hands. The rain continued: "From now on, when it rains, each of you will stretch across the sky in a great bow of colors as a reminder that you can all live in peace. The rainbow is a sign of hope for tomorrow".

And so, whenever a good rain washes the world, and a rainbow appears in the sky, let us remember to appreciate one another.

INNER JOURNEYS

The Power of Color

By Edel Jarboe

Color therapy has been used for centuries by healing practitioners and can be traced back to its Chinese, Indian, Tibetan, Ayurvedic, and Egyptian roots. It is based upon the theory that each color found in the visible light spectrum has its own wavelength and frequency which produces a specific energy and which in turn has a specific effect on us. It is believed that we can heal and enhance the mind, body, and soul through the conscious use of color.

Color therapy emphasizes surrounding yourself with your power colors using flowers, light bulbs, bath salts, gems, candles, food, clothing, etc. For example, to help guests feel loved, accepted, and protected the Green Valley Spa uses red roses, cinnamon water, and sensual music in its rooms.

To find the right color to be used one needs to be aware of a color's qualities and meaning. Colors are generally divided into two categories: warm (red, orange, and yellow) and cool (green, blue, indigo, and violet). Warm colors are for inspiration and represent passion and happiness. Male. The color of intellect, analysis and mental clarity, optimism, movement, sunlight, spiritual progress and sometimes, faith and constancy. Confidence, power of thought, logic, memory and creativity. Thought and reason.
The Personality of a YELLOW PERSON is that of a sweet optimistic intellectual. This person loves to learn and comprehends it too! Bit of an introvert. Wants to know the "how" on just about everything, such as how does an Air Balloon work anyway? Devoted and trustworthy this person can keep a secret however you may get a lecture for the price. An extremely creative person that has the ability to keep their staid intellectual side and the fun sunny outlook in two different corners. Loves the big outdoors and probably will make their own soap and candles just to give away!

Color, a physical phenomena of light or visual perception associated with the various wave lengths in the visible portion of the spectrum. A sensation experienced by humans and some animals, it is a complex
neurophysiological process.

A great deal of study has gone into color theory. It affects our moods, stimulates or depresses our awareness, can make us have a sudden desire to eat, rant, feel secure, or shop depending on the color. Studies of color in modern times, most a psychological point of view, and its uses have been incorporated in our Medical, Psychiatric, Education and Penal Institutions as well as modern marketing techniques! The "old" and traditional color uses mostly agree with the modern day interpretations and the ancient use of color in magick still holds true today.

You will find many differing uses and meanings of colors. It is up to you to find what works for you. We will attempt to give as many meanings as we can and in some cases will give the differing opinion that we have found. Please use your journal in your study of the colors.

There is a meditation technique to find out what the different colors feel like to you and be able to find out what "color" is your personality color

It begins by grounding yourself first. Now instead of using the Earth and cosmic colors, bring in colored energies. Begin with a splat of one color on your inner mental screen and imagine that color running up through your feet and legs and down from your crown. Keep it there for a good half to full minute. Take notice of how you are feeling emotionally and physically.

Start with the color Black, how does it make you feel? Do you feel serene? Comfortable? Heart rate steady? Is it coursing smoothly through the veins? Take note of each of these as you move from color to color. Let the color now fade and slowly bring in Grey. Take your time and notice everything about you and your thoughts. Fade out and bring in Brown. Starting with a light tan color increasing to a dark brown. Comfortable? Secure? Or feeling a little bit repressed? Fade out. Bring in Red. Again start with a light shade of Red and gradually increase it. Feel it moving and circulating. Notice any differences? Fade it out now to Orange. How different does this feel? Are you more comfortable than with Red or Brown? Fade out. Bring in Yellow. Think about how it makes you feel. The feelings, moods and physical reactions are all very significant no matter how subtle they may seem. Fade out to Light Green. Any uplift? Darken this now to a dark forest green. A claustrophobic reaction? A warm and happy feeling? Fade out to Light Blue. Notice any difference? Gradually now darken this to a royal deep blue. Fade out. Bring in Pink. What changed? Hows your mood? Fade out to lavender. Any subtle difference make note. Deepen this to Purple. Any change there? How are you feeling in this color? Fade out to Gold. Is your temperature rising? Feeling a little less weighty? Comfortable? Fade out and move to Silver. Keep it flowing. Fade out and bring in White. Are you noticing any differences? Heart rate the same? Comfortable? Fade out. Shake your head. Found your color?

Now remembering how you felt with each color, the one that kept you comfortable, but at the same time felt as though your energy had been increased and an overall feeling of "good" was found in that color, you have found your own personality color!

One way too to study colors is a personal one. When you get dressed in the morning and chose your clothes record how you were feeling, what you were expecting for the day and then later, what your mood was that day. Some interesting things will start to show a pattern for you and you just may find out how to incorporate this into your life to help things go just a little smoother for you!

The understanding of the properties of colors will aid in seeing of the Auras, Chakra, and cleansings, Meditations, the correct choice for gems and stones, candle magick, scents, and even some of the herbal recipes, its used sometimes in Tarot too! Remember to keep a journal of all you do with your work in colors. Write it all down. It will surely help in all the techniques you will be using!
